Invisible Character

Copy a blank Unicode character that looks like nothing. Choose the type and how many you need.

Choose a character

Characters in the box: 0 · Invisible: 0

The box looks empty after you paste, but the count goes up. That shows the character is there.

How to copy an invisible character

  1. Choose a character. Pick one of the eight characters under Choose a character. Hangul filler is selected first.
  2. Set the number. Enter how many characters you need, from 1 to 1,000.
  3. Copy and paste. Press Copy, then paste where you want the blank text. Paste in the Test it here box to check that it was copied.

What is an invisible character?

An invisible character is a Unicode character that shows nothing on the screen. A computer still counts it as a character, so a text made of invisible characters is not empty even though it looks empty.

Some invisible characters take space like a letter. Others have no width at all and are used inside text to control how letters join or where a line may break. The guide on the types of blank characters compares them.

Features

  • Eight invisible characters to choose from.
  • Copy 1 to 1,000 characters at once.
  • Test box that counts the invisible characters you paste.
  • Unicode code shown for every character.

The eight characters

CharacterCodeWidthWhat it was made for
Hangul fillerU+3164Like a letterA placeholder in Korean writing
Braille blankU+2800Like a letterThe Braille pattern with no dots
Zero width spaceU+200BNoneMarks a place where a line may break
Zero width non-joinerU+200CNoneStops two letters from joining
Zero width joinerU+200DNoneJoins two characters, for example in emoji
Word joinerU+2060NoneStops a line break at that place
No-break spaceU+00A0Like a spaceA space that keeps two words on one line
Em spaceU+2003A wide spaceA wide space in typesetting

Characters with the width of a letter are the usual choice when a field must not look empty. Characters with no width are useful when the blank must take no room. The best known of these is the U+200B character, the zero width space.

Why it may not work in an app

  • The app says the field is empty. Many apps and games remove invisible characters or block them in names. Each app decides this for itself. Try another character from the list.
  • A box or a question mark shows. The font of that app has no blank shape for the character. Try Hangul filler or Braille blank.
  • The blank disappears after saving. The app trims spaces at the start and end. A space type such as No-break space or Em space is often trimmed.
  • The rules of the app forbid it. Some services do not allow blank names. Check their rules first.

We do not test these characters in other apps, so this page does not promise that a character works in a specific app or game.

Related tools

Three other tools on this site work with the same kind of text. The text repeater repeats any text, also a blank character, as many times as you need. The glitch text generator uses another kind of special character, the combining mark. The tool to remove extra spaces cleans double spaces and empty lines from a text.

Is it private?

Yes. The character is copied inside your browser. What you paste in the test box is not sent to our server and is not saved by us.

Frequently asked questions

Choose a character, set the number and press Copy. Then paste it where you need blank text.
Which invisible character should I use?

Paste in the Test it here box. The box looks empty, but the character count goes up.
Will it work for a blank name in every app?
No. Each app decides which characters it accepts, and some block blank names.
