What is an online notepad?
An online notepad is a web page where you can write plain text without opening an app or creating an account. It is useful for quick notes, drafts, lists and text you want to keep for a short time.
This notepad keeps one note. It stores the note in your own browser, not on a server.
Features
- Automatic saving in your browser while you type.
- No account and no sign-in.
- Word and character count under the note.
- Copy the note or download it as a .txt file.
- Dark mode with the button in the top bar.
Where your note is stored
The note is kept in the local storage of the browser you are using. Local storage is a small space that a browser gives each website on your device.
| Situation | What happens to the note |
|---|---|
| You close the tab or restart the device | The note stays |
| You open the page in another browser or on another device | The note is not there. It does not sync |
| You clear the browsing data or site data | The note is deleted |
| You use a private or incognito window | The note is deleted when you close the window |
For anything important, press Download .txt and keep the file.
Limits
- One note. The notepad holds a single note, not a list of notes.
- Plain text only. There is no bold, colour or images.
- Up to 500,000 characters.
- No sync and no sharing link. The note stays in one browser.
Related tools
Three other tools on this site help with a note. The word counter counts its words and characters. The case converter fixes capital letters. The tool to remove extra spaces cleans double spaces and empty lines before you save.
Is it private?
The note is not sent to our server and we cannot read it. Anyone who uses the same browser on the same device can open this page and see the note, so do not keep passwords or other secrets in it on a shared computer.
