What is fancy text?
Fancy text is normal text written with special Unicode characters that look like bold, cursive or decorated letters. Unicode is the standard that gives every character a number, so that it shows the same on every device.
These characters are not fonts. The style is part of the character itself, so it stays when you copy the text and paste it in another app. The guide on Unicode text styles explains where these characters come from.
Features
- 24 styles shown at the same time.
- One Copy button per style, so you copy only the one you want.
- Live preview that updates while you type.
- Works with pasted text up to 2,000 characters.
The 24 styles
| Group | Styles | Digits 0 to 9 |
|---|---|---|
| Serif | Bold, Italic, Bold italic | Bold only |
| Cursive and gothic | Cursive, Bold cursive, Gothic, Bold gothic | No |
| Sans-serif | Sans-serif, bold, italic, bold italic | Sans-serif and bold |
| Technical | Double-struck, Monospace, Wide | Yes |
| Shapes | Bubble, Black bubble, Square, Black square | Bubble and Black bubble |
| Small | Small caps, Tiny (superscript) | Tiny only |
| Lines | Strikethrough, Underline, Double underline, Slashed | Yes |
Where a style has no digits, the digits stay normal. Black bubble, Square and Black square have capital letters only, so small letters are shown as capitals.
Why a style may not look right
- Empty boxes or question marks. The device or app that shows the text does not have these characters. Try a more common style such as Bold or Italic. The guide on missing characters explains why this happens.
- Letters with accents do not change. Unicode has these styles only for the English letters A to Z, so letters such as é, ñ and ü stay normal. Arabic, Hindi and other scripts also stay normal.
- Small caps and Tiny have gaps. Small caps has no capital letters and uses a look-alike for q. Tiny uses a look-alike for q and has no capital letters.
- Black square letters look like emojis. Some phones draw a few of these letters, such as A, B, O and P, as coloured emoji.
- The app refuses the text. Some apps and sites do not allow special characters in names or usernames. For a profile, see the guide on fonts for Instagram.

Good to know before you use it
Screen readers, the tools that read the screen aloud for blind people, often cannot read fancy characters or read them letter by letter. Search also does not find a word written in fancy characters. Use fancy text for decoration, and keep important information in normal letters. The guide on accessible text shows what a screen reader does with these characters.
The text is styled inside your browser. It is not sent to our server and is not saved by us.
