What is Lorem Ipsum?
Lorem Ipsum is placeholder text that designers and printers use to fill a layout before the real text is ready. It looks like Latin, but it has no meaning that a reader would follow.
Because the words carry no message, people who look at the layout judge the design, the fonts and the spacing, and are not distracted by reading.
Features
- Three units: paragraphs, sentences or words.
- Up to 100 paragraphs, 500 sentences or 5,000 words at a time.
- Classic opening "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet", with a switch to turn it off.
- Word and character count of the generated text.
- Copy, select or download the text as a .txt file.
How the text is built
| Part | How it is made |
|---|---|
| Words | Picked at random from a list of Latin-looking words used in Lorem Ipsum |
| Sentence | 6 to 14 words, a capital letter at the start and a full stop at the end. Some have one comma |
| Paragraph | 4 to 7 sentences, with an empty line between paragraphs |
| Words mode | The exact number of words you ask for, as one sentence |
The words are random, so each text is different and is not a real Latin passage.
Good to know before you use it
- Do not publish it. Lorem Ipsum is for drafts. Replace it with real text before a page or a print goes live.
- It is not a translation. The text cannot be translated into meaningful English.
- The number changes back. A number above the limit is set to the limit: 100 paragraphs, 500 sentences or 5,000 words.
