How to Repeat Text on WhatsApp
To repeat text on WhatsApp, build the repeated text with a text repeater, copy it and paste it in the chat as one message. WhatsApp has no repeat button, so the text is made outside the app.
This guide shows the three steps, how to format the repeated text, and what WhatsApp says about repeated and bulk messages. The rules in this guide come from the WhatsApp Help Center.
How to repeat text on WhatsApp in 3 steps
- Build the text. Open the text repeater, type your text, enter the number of repetitions and choose a separator. Press Repeat.
- Copy the result. Press Copy. The whole repeated text is now on your clipboard.
- Paste it in the chat. Open the chat in WhatsApp and paste the text in the message box. On a phone, press and hold the box and choose Paste. Then send.
There is also a shortcut. For a result of up to 2,000 characters, the WhatsApp button of the tool opens WhatsApp with the text already in the message. You choose the chat and press send yourself.
For a longer result the button is off. In that case use Copy and paste, as in the steps above.
One long message or many messages?
A text repeater gives you one long message, not many messages. The whole result arrives in the chat as a single message, and the other person gets one notification.
| One long message | Many separate messages | |
|---|---|---|
| How it is made | Text repeater, then one paste | Paste and send again and again by hand |
| Notifications | One | One for each message |
| How it looks | One block that fills the screen | A long row of small messages |
| Risk of annoying people | Low | High |
For a wish or a joke, choose New line as the separator. Each copy then sits on its own line inside one message, which looks like many messages but sends only one. The guide on how to send the same message many times compares the rules of WhatsApp, Telegram and Discord.
How to format repeated text on WhatsApp
WhatsApp formats text with symbols that you type before and after the text. The WhatsApp Help Center lists these four.
| Style | What you type | Symbol |
|---|---|---|
| Bold | *Happy Birthday* | An asterisk on both sides |
| Italic | _Happy Birthday_ | An underscore on both sides |
| Strikethrough | ~Happy Birthday~ | A tilde on both sides |
| Monospace | ```Happy Birthday``` | Three backticks on both sides |
To format every copy, put the symbols in the text before you repeat it. For example, repeat *Happy Birthday* with the asterisks 20 times with a new line between the copies, and each line shows in bold in the chat.
How long can a WhatsApp message be?
WhatsApp does not publish a maximum message length that we could find in its Help Center. Other websites give different numbers and name no source, so this guide does not state a number.
- Start small. With one copy on each line, a count of 20 to 50 already fills the screen of a phone.
- Check the size. The tool shows the number of characters of the result before you copy it.
- Split a very long result. If the app cuts or refuses the text, lower the count and send it in two parts.
For the published limits of other apps, see the guide on character limits.
What WhatsApp says about repeated and bulk messages
WhatsApp does not forbid a long message that you paste yourself. It forbids automated and bulk messaging. The WhatsApp Help Center says: "Don't bulk message, auto-message, or auto-dial using WhatsApp."
The same page explains that WhatsApp uses machine learning and reports from users to find accounts that send unwanted automated messages. An account that is reported many times can be banned.
WhatsApp has two different penalties, and they are not the same thing.
| Restricted account | Banned account | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A limit for a set time | The number cannot use WhatsApp |
| Cause named by WhatsApp | Signs of spam, automated or bulk messaging | Activity that breaks the Terms of Service, such as spam or scams |
| What still works | Chats with existing contacts and groups | Nothing |
| What stops | New chats and calls with new contacts, creating groups, adding members, linked devices | Everything |
| How it ends | By itself when the time is over | After a review that you request in the app |
A banned account shows a notice that the phone number cannot use WhatsApp. The review is requested inside the app, and the Help Center states that most reviews are completed within 24 hours.
How to repeat text without annoying people
Repeated text is safe when the other person knows you and expects a message from you. The WhatsApp Help Center advises sending messages only to people who contacted you first or who asked you to contact them.
- Send it to people who know you. A friend laughs at 100 birthday wishes. A stranger reports them.
- Send one message. One long message is a surprise. Fifty separate messages are a nuisance.
- Keep the count small. The joke works at 50 copies as well as at 5,000.
- Do not use bots or scripts. A tool that sends messages for you is automation, and that is what WhatsApp bans.
- Stop when asked. If the person does not like it, do not send it again.
Frequently asked questions
- Can WhatsApp ban me for sending repeated text?
- One long message to a friend is not what the rules describe. WhatsApp restricts or bans accounts for spam, automated messages and bulk messages, and for accounts that many users report.
- Does a text repeater send the messages on WhatsApp for me?
- No. It only builds the text. You paste it in the chat and press send yourself.
- Can I repeat emojis on WhatsApp?
- Yes. Type or paste the emoji in the text repeater, set the count and paste the result in the chat.
- Why is the WhatsApp button off?
- The result is longer than 2,000 characters. Press Copy and paste the text in the chat instead.
- Does the repeated text arrive as one message?
- Yes. The whole result is one message, even when each copy is on its own line.
